Campaign to save Whitchurch Driving Test Centre takes ‘a step forward’

10 Feb 2022

Helen Morgan, Liberal Democrat MP for North Shropshire, has today urged Baroness Vere, the Undersecretary of State responsible for driving centres to reverse the planned closure of Whitchurch Driving Test Centre.

Baroness Vere explained that the DVSA do not consider the current test centre cost effective to run but committed the DVSA to ‘look sensibly at other proposals’ to keep the test centre open.

In the meeting, which Helen requested, Helen raised the concerns of thousands of people across North Shropshire about the driving centre being closed, in particular that the planned closures were part of a wider issue of rural communities being devastated by key services shutting down.

Commenting, Helen said: "This is a step forward in the campaign to keep Whitchurch Driving Test Centre open. I have already contacted the campaign leaders and Whitchurch Councillors to put together a sensible alternative proposal for the DVSA".
