Schoolchildren praised for Ukraine fundraiser
North Shropshire MP Helen Morgan has praised local schoolchildren after a concert raised more than £11,000 for Ukraine.
The Songs for Ukraine concert, held at Holy Trinity Church in Oswestry on Sunday evening, was organised by Oswestry School and featured around 200 students of a range of ages from schools across North Shropshire as well as performances from Ukrainian singer and DJ Dasha Minieieva.
The church was packed for the event after regular tickets quickly sold out but Helen was lucky enough to be in the audience to witness a moving gala concert. Many other people were watching online after purchasing livestream tickets.
More than £11,000 has been raised through ticket sales and donations with all proceeds going to the Government’s matched Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Ukrainian Humanitarian appeal.
Helen Morgan MP said: “It was a privilege to be in the audience for what was a truly emotional concert and it was lovely to be reminded of just how talented our local schoolchildren are.
“I was extremely impressed by the musical ability and enthusiasm of all the students who took part and was delighted to see the level of support from local communities for the Ukrainian appeal.
“It was particularly moving to see all the school choirs join together to sing World in Union.
“Congratulations to all those who took part and helped organise such a successful concert.”
