Helen backs North Shropshire businesses in ‘Rural Oscars’ final
Helen Morgan is backing North Shropshire businesses to take home prestigious ‘Rural Oscars’ after being named as finalists.
Five different businesses from the constituency have made the final of the countryside Alliance Awards 2023 after Helen encouraged nominations from across North Shropshire.
The finalists in the area are as follows:
- The White Lion Community Pub in Whitchurch, in the Pub category
- Cockshutt Community Shop in the Village Shop/Post Office category
- Moolah in Ellesmere, in the Local Food/Drink category
- Sherratt Farm Supplies Ltd in Whixall, in the Rural Enterprise category
- Oteley Estate Farm in Ellesmere, in the Rural Enterprise category
Helen is now planning to visit each business to show her support.
The awards are the Countryside Alliance’s annual celebration of British food & farming, enterprise and heritage through our small hard-working businesses.
The Rural Oscars received thousands of nominations this year so the five businesses have done extremely well to reach the regional final.
The Rural Oscars are now in their 16th year and are set apart from other award schemes because they are driven by public nomination, offering customers the chance to share why their favourite businesses are worthy of national acclaim.
Helen Morgan, Liberal Democrat MP for North Shropshire, said:
“Local businesses are what keep our communities going and these are five examples of the many brilliant local firms that deserve our support in North Shropshire.
“The Countryside Alliance Awards celebrate those businesses that go the extra mile and the fact that these shops, suppliers, farms and pubs have all reached the final shows the strength of North Shropshire’s local business community.
“Their success is proof of the hard work and service each of these businesses provides. I will be following the results of the awards closely and I’m looking forward to congratulating the staff at each business in person.”
Countryside Alliance Awards Director Sarah Lee commented:
“We have been overwhelmed by nominations this year. The secret to the Rural Oscars’ popularity is that they honour the people involved in these businesses and not just their produce or services. They exist to sing the praises of those who work hard to keep our communities and rural economy ticking, but don’t seek the spotlight. Our local produce is second to none and there are many community heroes and businesses worthy of national recognition.”
