MP watches crime-busting CCTV in action
North Shropshire MP Helen Morgan got a front-row view of how CCTV is used to tackle County Lines criminals on a visit to Oswestry.
The MP was shown around the CCTV control room at Oswestry’s police station by co-ordinator Jim Stafford on Friday afternoon.
Volunteers use the cameras to monitor streets across the town and help emergency services react quickly to any unfolding incidents.
Helen said: “It was fascinating to see the good work the volunteers and police are doing up close in Oswestry.
“The town has a really impressive and innovative CCTV system which was great to see in action.
“Thanks must go to the whole team of staff and volunteers for working hard to keep the town safe.
“Oswestry has a very strong case for applying for further investment in noise cameras too.
“I’ve received lots of suggestions from across North Shropshire about areas that would benefit from such cameras. Unfortunately, for now I am only able to nominate one place to take part in a trial and I will be deciding which road to put forward in the near future.”
The visit followed Helen’s constituency surgery in Oswestry, where residents were able to raise any concerns they may have with their MP.
