Oswestry's MP Helen Morgan has welcomed Shropshire Council’s announcement of progress on plans to improve and restore the Oswestry Station building used by Cambrian Heritage Railways.

Scaffolding originally planned to be short-term has been on the iconic Victorian building for months, covering much of the heritage architecture at the fringe of the town centre.

Just weeks after the North Shropshire MP met with Cambrian Heritage Railways and subsequently wrote to the Council Leader and Chief Executive, Shropshire Council have announced a programme of repairs is now set to be agreed with several local groups.

No details have been yet confirmed surrounding this announcement by the local authority, who have owned the scaffolding-covered building since the start of 2023.

Helen Morgan, MP for North Shropshire said, “It is really positive to hear that progress is now being made on making the most of the Oswestry Station building.

“I met with Cambrian Heritage Railways to discuss their ambitions for the future earlier this month and wrote to Shropshire Council surrounding the scaffolding and repairs issue, so I know it will be warmly welcomed by many that some progress is now being made.

“The important job now is to make sure the work is done in a timely and cost-efficient manner, especially after the recent saga down the road on Church Street where plastic barriers were costing Shropshire Council £8,000 a month.”
