Helen Morgan MP has welcomed staff and pupils from Derwen College to Parliament for the launch of the Natspec manifesto, aimed at unlocking the potential of specialist further education.

Natspec are calling for fair access to specialist FE for those learners who need it, investment in the specialist sector to ensure high quality provision is available to these learners, and a joined-up approach across government departments, so that young people with more complex needs have the support they need to thrive once they leave college.

As well as providing some of the best specialist further education in the country, Derwen College is one of the largest employers in North Shropshire, bringing a large number of good jobs to the Oswestry area.

Helen Morgan, MP for North Shropshire, said, “It was really lovely to see some of the Derwen College team down in Parliament for the Natspec manifesto launch.

“We are very fortunate to have such a fantastic specialist facility here in North Shropshire, and it is good to see the topic getting some airtime with MPs and peers. There is clearly a pressing need to invest in the specialist further education sector and support colleges like Derwen to provide a great education.

“Ensuring access to specialist facilities is at the core of the Natspec manifesto, which I would really recommend Ministers and people in the sector read and take note of.”
