Helen Morgan has welcomed Shropshire Council’s cancellation of the tip booking system as a ‘victory for common sense’.

The council announced it is scrapping the booking system for cars at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

This comes after six weeks of pressure and campaigning by local residents and Shropshire’s Liberal Democrats, who launched a petition signed by more than 6,000 people.

Helen Morgan, MP for North Shropshire, said, “This is a victory for common sense. I am really pleased that the council has seen sense and listened to the thousands of residents who opposed this unnecessary change.

“Thank you to everybody who wrote to me about this and signed the Lib Dem petition. This has really helped to demonstrate the strength of feeling among local people and push the council to see sense.

“The system was a bad idea from the start, added a layer of costly administration and led to an increase in fly-tipping.”

Instead of booking, car drivers wishing to use recycling centres will now have to provide proof of residency in Shropshire, while drivers of vans and cars with trailers will still need to book.
