Helen visits Palethorpes Bakery in Market Drayton
Helen Morgan has visited Palethorpes Bakery in Market Drayton, one of the constituency’s largest employers with around 700 staff in the town.
The MP met with representatives to discuss the challenges and opportunities of operating out of a North Shropshire market town, and their offer to the local economy.
Palethorpes has been operating at the heart of Market Drayton since the 1850s, and is now owned by the Compleat Food Group. Much of their output ends up being sold in supermarkets like ASDA.
Helen Morgan, Liberal Democrat MP for North Shropshire said, “Shropshire is one of Britain’s most rural counties – but it’s also the birthplace of industry and major employers like Palethorpes continue to play a major role in the local economy.
“I enjoyed visiting the site in Market Drayton, meeting some of the hundreds of local staff and of course sampling the brilliant baked goods!
“It was also particularly useful to hear more about how operating from a Shropshire market town offers unique opportunities, alongside the usual challenges and trials that are coming up across the industry.”
