Helen talks business and buses with Ellesmere Chamber of Commerce
North Shropshire MP Helen Morgan has met with the Ellesmere Chamber of Commerce to talk about measures to back local businesses and support the rural economy.
Ellesmere Chamber of Commerce exist to promote Ellesmere’s thriving business community and advocate cross-sector measures to support business growth in the town. They have recently held their ‘flagship’ event, The Ellesmere Winter Festival.
The main issues arising at the meeting were about transport – namely, the lack of car parking in Ellesmere and the lack of bus routes to other large nearby towns such as Whitchurch.
The MP also discussed the challenges and opportunities of operating out of a rural market town, and the future of high streets like in Ellesmere in the long-term.
Helen Morgan, Liberal Democrat MP for North Shropshire, said, “It was really useful to meet with local businesses in Ellesmere and hear their views and concerns.
“There are both challenges and opportunities to operating out of a market town like Ellesmere. The main issues that we discussed were about transport – whether that’s a lack of car parking or a lack of a bus route to Whitchurch. I am committed to campaigning for our market towns and will be continuing to raise these issues both in Parliament and with Shropshire Council.
“There is clearly a lot more we can do to support firms both on the high street and who operate out of Shropshire at a national and international level.”
