Helen supports Restart a Heart Day
North Shropshire MP Helen Morgan is supporting a Resuscitation Council UK initiative on defibrillation awareness ahead of Restart a Heart Day on October 16th.
Shropshire has some of the worst A&E waiting times in the country, an issue which the MP has taken up repeatedly in Parliament. This makes easy access to a defibrillator more important to save lives quickly.
Recent data reveals that 61% of people aren’t confident enough to us a defibrillator, even though accessing a defibrillator within 3–5 min of collapse can increase survival rates by up to 50-70%.
The communities with the least access to defibrillators are often the most deprived, despite this being the group at greatest risk of a cardiac arrest.
Helen Morgan MP said, “In rural counties like Shropshire which have real issues with ambulance waiting times, defibrillators are vitally important and save lives.
“Those looking after defibrillators in places like pubs, sports clubs, community centres, churches, and village halls do a great job – the big ask now is to make sure they are accessible 24/7.
“I am keen to back Restart a Heart Day this October 16th and support the important work being done by the Resuscitation Council UK to spread awareness of how to use this life-saving equipment.”
