Helen Morgan MP has intervened in a debate to ask the Minister for Children about the actions being taken to improve provision for children with special educational needs.

Two of the three specialist schools in North Shropshire are rated inadequate and in need of improvement, with some of the most vulnerable children unable to attend due to their needs not being met.

The Minister pledged to work with Shropshire on capacity issues, but did not outline any specific support for the county.

Helen Morgan, MP for North Shropshire, asked, “Two of our three specialist schools are rated inadequate and need improving. And the most vulnerable children are being unable to go to school because need isn't being met.

“Will the Minister look at what could be done in Shropshire to provide places for these most seriously effected children?”

David Johnston MP, Minister for Children, replied, “We will work with Shropshire on their capacity. We've already announced 41 new specialist free schools, with a further scheme in the pipeline.”
