Helen pledges support for Midlands Air Ambulance after HQ visit
Shropshire MP Helen Morgan visited the new Midlands Air Ambulance base near RAF Cosford and pledged to do everything possible to support the charity.
The MP has been a tenacious campaigner on health issues and ambulance wait times in the county since her election in December 2021, recently celebrating a £21 million boost to emergency care funding for 52 extra beds at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals.
Visiting the Midlands Air Ambulance, the MP learnt more about how air ambulance staff work and discussed the crucial role the charity fulfils providing critical care to seriously injured patients across the region.
Midlands Air Ambulance covers the largest area of any air ambulance charity in England, yet is entirely reliant on fundraising due to not receiving any money from the Government. The charity has recently moved from RAF Cosford to a new purpose-built headquarters nearby with state-of-the art facilities and training equipment. There is now enough space for clinical and non-clinical staff to all be based in the same building, for the charity to host its events and for specialist training to be offered.
Helen Morgan, MP for North Shropshire said, “Campaigning to improve ambulance services in Shropshire is a top priority for me, and has been since day one.
“The Midlands Air Ambulance do fantastic work to save lives across the region and are a vital part of the provision we have in the county. The fact this is all run by a charity is incredible and I will do everything possible to support them.
“Thanks to Ian, Mark and the team for showing me around their new base at RAF Cosford. Countless lives are saved every year due to the speed and specialism of the treatment provided by air ambulance staff and I was in awe learning the detail of how the operation works.”
