Another successful year of Whitchurch Walking Festival was opened by North Shropshire MP Helen Morgan and Whitchurch Mayor Andy Hall this weekend.

Whitchurch Walking Festival, now in its 10th year of running, attracts walkers both from in the county and much farther afield. Routes showcase some of the best walking in and around Whitchurch, taking people out to the heart of the Meres and the Mosses of North Shropshire.

The festival is put on by Whitchurch Walkers, who were established back in 1976. They are a friendly group of like-minded people who like walking and share a concern for local footpaths and rights of way and operate all year round, not just during the festival.

Helen said, “Shropshire has a fantastic array of walking routes, and our countryside is enormously important to our rural way of life – one of the best things about living here is that we have such great scenery right on the doorstep.

“It was a pleasure to celebrate everything our part of the county has to offer and officially open Whitchurch Walking Festival this year.

“The Whitchurch Walkers should be very proud of running such a great event. It was noticeable that many present had travelled for miles to come and visit Shropshire this weekend and enjoy the routes – bringing in visitors to enjoy our county and keep our high streets bustling is a real added bonus.”
