Helen Morgan ‘very concerned’ by Sir Keir Starmer comments on Future Fit

Shropshire’s Liberal Democrat MP has expressed her concerns over comments by Labour Leader Sir Keir Starmer supporting a review of the Future Fit scheme.

The Hospitals Transformation Programme has been a major topic of debate in the county over the past decade, with plans now at a point where millions in funding for the local NHS can be unlocked.

Helen Morgan, Liberal Democrat MP for North Shropshire said, “Shropshire’s NHS is in crisis, and further delays to investment from Future Fit will make a difficult situation even harder to resolve.

“That is why I find Sir Keir Starmer’s comments on the Hospitals Transformation Programme very concerning. A review of the scheme could take months or years, and would set back plans to invest over £300 million in local health services – making that money worth even less as inflation remains high.

“What we need is a grown-up, clinician-led approach – not narrow party politics.”
