£72 million needed to fix crumbling hospitals in Shropshire
More than £70 million is needed to fix the backlog of repairs at hospitals in Shropshire, new analysis by the Liberal Democrats has found.
Shropshire MP Helen Morgan has met with representatives from Community Pharmacy England to hear more about the role they can play reducing demand at A&E to combat waiting times and increase access to treatment this winter.
The drop-in event held in Parliament was set-up to showcase the use of high quality pharmacy provision in the wider healthcare system, especially over the hard winter period.
Helen has helped constituents who have struggled to access medication when they need it and has met with local pharmacy staff to better understand the challenges they face with staffing, running costs and a lack of funding.
The MP has echoed calls made by the sector to deliver a long-term program of investment to support the NHS.
Helen Morgan, Liberal Democrat MP for North Shropshire, said, “It was very useful to meet with Community Pharmacy England to talk about the role they can play improving health services and getting people the support they need.
“This is particularly important in rural areas like Shropshire where too many people have already had bad experiences with A&E this winter.
“Pharmacies can clearly play a role to help reduce demand and combat waiting times - something we desperately need in Shropshire.”
