North Shropshire MP Helen Morgan has joined over 4,000 county residents calling on Shropshire Council to scrap the controversial new booking system at tips across the county.

Liberal Democrat councillors launched the Household Recycling Centres petition on New Years’ Day, receiving over 1,000 signatures in under 24 hours.

In the fortnight since, the number has risen to over 4,000 – making the petition one of the most popular in recent Council history.

Whilst the petition has already passed the threshold to be heard at a Shropshire Council debate in February, campaigners are still urging residents to sign and share in order to demonstrate the strength of public opposition to the change.

Helen Morgan, the MP for North Shropshire, says she has had countless conversations with residents who oppose the change. She is joining calls to sign the petition, which can also be found on her website at https://www.helenmorgan.org.uk/scrap-tip-bookings.

Helen Morgan, Liberal Democrat MP for North Shropshire, said, “Over the past weeks and months, hundreds of residents have complained to me and my team about recent changes to bins, waste, and access to tips in Shropshire.

“Liberal Democrat councillors are campaigning to scrap the poorly thought-through tip booking system, and have collected nearly 4,000 signatures — a huge total, which will put the Conservatives who run Shropshire Council under real pressure to rethink.

“I’m wholeheartedly supporting their campaign and petition, which North Shropshire residents can sign online on my website.

“The more pressure we put on and more signatures we get, the better our chances of success.”
