Helen marks Fuel Poverty Awareness Day
Helen Morgan MP has met with representatives from National Energy Action, a campaigning group who have set-up Fuel Poverty Awareness Day every 30th November.
The MP has been a campaigner on the cost-of-living crisis and the impact it has had on Shropshire, speaking in Parliament about the lack of support for off-grid homes and calling for the extension of rural fuel duty relief to Shropshire, cutting costs for people getting around the county.
She says that many of her constituents are ‘dreading a cold snap’ over the winter months due to the high costs of taking care of what North Shropshire’s many off-grid, larger, harder to heat properties.
Helen Morgan, MP for North Shropshire, said, “It was good to talk to National Energy Action and mark this year’s Fuel Poverty Awareness Day – they do important work on a policy area that impacts thousands of people in Shropshire.
“The sad reality is that many people in North Shropshire are dreading a cold snap this winter and are having to make difficult financial choices to keep their homes warm.
“I have long campaigned for more action to support those in rural areas like ours, where many people live in houses that are harder and more expensive to heat. Temperatures are dropping quickly now, and it is vital that the Government acts quickly before we face a crisis.”
