Helen joins calls to sort out ‘eyesore’ hotel in Wem
Helen Morgan has joined calls to sort out the derelict White Horse Hotel on the High Street, writing to Wem Town Council and offering her support for developing plans to bring the building back into use.
This comes as the White Horse has been again sold at auction, this time for £92,000 – a far higher price than the Grade II listed building had previously been up for.
The town’s MP is keen to get the ‘eyesore’ building sorted out, given its prominent location on the High Street at a point where many enter Wem coming from Shrewsbury.
Helen Morgan, Liberal Democrat MP for North Shropshire said, “The White Horse Hotel is an eyesore that brings the rest of Wem High Street down – it’s about time plans to sort it out move forwards.
“I entirely share the frustration that local residents and Wem Town Council have with the lack of action over the White Horse, and have written to offer my support for developing plans to bring the space back into use.
“Economic growth in rural areas can be tricky to generate, despite how hard local people and businesses work. For Wem, sorting out the White Horse would do an enormous amount to improve the High Street and get the local economy moving.”
