Helen calls for donations after foodbank visit
Local MP Helen Morgan has called for more support for Oswestry's foodbank to combat rural poverty after meeting staff and customers at the site this week.
Helen visited the foodbank on Beatrice Street where she met organisers and volunteers and heard first hand about the pressure facing many families in the area.
The Oswestry and Borders Foodbank - which has helped 2,751 people since April 2023 with deliveries of 21 tonnes of food – is in need of donations due to demand for their services outstripping supply.
Local MP Helen Morgan praised the work done by volunteers at the foodbank and called for more support for residents dealing with cost of living pressures.
Helen Morgan said, “It was humbling to visit the Oswestry and Borders Foodbank and see the incredible being work done by local volunteers, but it was also clear that more support is needed – both through donations to the foodbank and action from the government on the cost-of-living crisis.
“The cost-of-living crisis is having a devastating impact on our communities, with rural poverty and isolation a problem that impacts Shropshire much more than most areas.
“It’s sad that foodbanks are needed but they really are a lifeline for so many local people so if you are able to donate please do.
“People can find out how to help and support the foodbank online (link below), a really important way of supporting the community.”
