Helen Morgan has issued a call for contractors at RAF Shawbury to give military families the respect they deserve.
This comes after repair men working for Amey at RAF Shawbury were caught on a doorbell camera preparing to leave a job early by pretending they lacked the parts required, with a clip widely circulating on military and veteran social media groups.
The MP has written to the Chief Executive of Amey demanding that families are given more respect, especially given the well-documented problems with service family accommodation and the public pledges that have been made to improve service quality.
Helen said, “Servicemen and women at RAF Shawbury make huge sacrifices for their country. They deserve to be treated with the respect they deserve, which means the provision of high-quality accommodation and contractors who fix problems efficiently and effectively.
“I am disappointed to have had to write to Amey again given the public pledges made by them, Pinnacle, and the Ministry of Defence to root out issues with service family accommodation and improve the service. The Chief Executive must take this on board and prevent it from happening in future.
“I will continue to stand up for our military families and fight their corner in Parliament until the major issues we’ve seen in service family accommodation are put right.”
The North Shropshire MP has been a vocal advocate of military families in Parliament, securing a debate on service family accommodation and repeatedly challenging ministers over substandard housing.
Helen has worked with multiple families from RAF Shawbury to solve problems which have included mouldy ceilings, broken heating, leaking roofs and botched repair work.
She has also held talks with senior management from Amey and Pinnacle, the company in charge of booking appointments, over the poor service families have received since the Government contracts came into force last year.
