Helen Morgan urges clarity on Ukrainian refugee scheme
Local MP Helen Morgan has urged the Home Office to clarify and speed up the Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme visa process.
Helen’s statement comes in response to “dozens of families” in North Shropshire contacting her to request updates on visa applications.
Because Helen’s office is unable to speed up the Home Office process as things stand, Helen has urged people to “bear with us if you are waiting for an application to be processed”.
Commenting in a post on social media Helen said: “My office has been contacted by dozens of families in North Shropshire making the enormously generous offer of a place in their home for Ukrainian refugees.
As has been well documented, the Home Office has been experiencing delays processing Visa requests. This led the Home Secretary, Priti Patel, to apologise last week, admitting that the process was ‘frustrating’.
My office is doing its best to help with those Visa applications. MPs and their offices have a helpline to contact the Home Office and enquire about the status of individual applications, but they are inundated and are requesting we don't repeatedly chase them. We aren’t able to process applications ourselves, and are unable to speed up the Home Office process as things stand.
Please bear with us if you are waiting for an application to be processed.”
