Helen Morgan shouts up for North Shropshire on Back British Farming Day
MP Helen Morgan shouted up for North Shropshire agriculture and showed her support for local farmers on Back British Farming Day.
Helen proudly donned the emblem of the day - a British wool and wheatsheaf pin badge which symbolises the fantastic products British food and farming provides.
As well as recognising the work farmers do for the nation, Back British Farming Day provides the perfect opportunity to acknowledge the many important contributions farmers make to their communities. This year the NFU has introduced the Community Farming Heroes award to celebrate the farmers who have gone above and beyond for their local community.
Helen was honoured to nominate Charlotte and Ben Hollis, from Fordhall Farm near Market Drayton, as NFU Community Farming Heroes.
elen Morgan, Lib Dem MP for North Shropshire, said: “I’m exceptionally proud to represent North Shropshire – an area where farming is the backbone of the economy – and I’m delighted to shout loud and proud for the area on Back British Farming Day.
“The produce grown here is not only delicious but it supports jobs and also helps protect the countryside through climate-friendly food.
“I’m sure everyone in North Shropshire knows a farmer who works at all hours to help keep us fed. They also make huge contributions to the local community – and this was demonstrated by the huge number of Community Farming Hero nominations I received.
“In my opinion they are all heroes, but I was very pleased to nominate Charlotte and Ben from Fordhall Farm who have achieved an extraordinary amount at a farm that was on the verge of closure. Lots of people from all ages and backgrounds have benefited from their outreach programmes and work placements and of course the farm is community owned.
“A solid, sustainable farming sector is crucial to the food and climate security of the UK so whenever possible please do your bit, back British and buy local.”
