Boost public transport to boost public health in North Shropshire
The Liberal Democrat has championed improving rural services since being elected as the North Shropshire MP last year.
She wants chronic problems in the health service to be tackled and transport links to be improved so that people are able to get to crucial appointments when they do become available.
As it stands, patients in Market Drayton needing to travel by public transport to Princess Royal Hospital in Telford must take two buses and a train in a three-hour round trip. This is more than three times longer than travelling by car.
People from surrounding villages are unable to get to hospital via public transport.
Speaking in the House of Commons, Liberal Democrat MP for North Shropshire Helen Morgan said, “It's been well documented that people in rural areas have worse health outcomes than people in urban ones.
“And one of the drivers behind that is a lack of access for the most vulnerable people to be able to get to the services they need.
“So would the minister consider working with his colleagues in the Department of Transport to figure out how we can provide the services we need for the most vulnerable people to access to healthcare they need?”
