Energy bill discount (Energy Bill Support Scheme)

All households in England and Wales are eligible for a £400 energy bill discount as part of the Energy Bill Support Scheme. Most Shropshire households will have had their £400 discount applied automatically via their electricity bills.

However, there are many households across Shropshire that need to apply manually for their £400 discount because they do not have a direct account with their electricity company, e.g. Park Homes' residents, houseboat residents and tenants who have a communal electricity supply or whose landlords have a business energy connection.

Alternative Fuel Payment

Approximately 25,000 households across Shropshire depend on alternative fuels to heat their homes such as oil or LPG. This is because they are off-grid (they do not have a mains gas supply). While households with a mains gas supply benefit from an energy price cap, off-grid households do not benefit from any kind of price cap.

Helen Morgan and the Liberal Democrats have been campaigning for a price cap on domestic heating oil and LPG, but all the Government is offering for now is a one-off Alternative Fuel Payment of £200.

How to apply

If you are not receiving one or both of your payments automatically, you need to apply manually. You do not need to be on a low income or in receipt of benefits to apply.
